Motor City Radio Club - W8MRM

"The Longest ARRL Affiliated Club in Michigan"

[Field Day] [Contest Results] [QSLing] [147.240+]

Where is Field Day for 2007?

The location of Field Day for the Motor City Radio Club is going to be at Heritage Park in the city of Taylor.  It's guaranteed to be lots of fun with multiple stations setup.  If you have never experienced Field Day, you need to experience it from setup to tear down.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Yes, actually there are a few things that would be very useful for you.

Are you attending setup on Friday?

  • Grill for cooking steaks - Believe it or not, Heritage Park does not have any grills around the pavilion that we will be using for our food tent.  It would be very helpful if those of you who have a portable grill could bring it along. We will need them for cooking steaks after setup is completed on Friday.  Remember: If you want a steak, give $5.00 to Dale, WA8FRD, our treasurer.

Items to bring regardless of whether you are attending the steak dinner on Friday:

  • Bug/Mosquito Spray - A couple of the tents will be situated in a wooded area, where mosquitoes like to hide.

  • Sunscreen Lotion - Locations such as the CW and Phone tents will see a good deal of sun during the day. It will also be helpful for when you are walking between operating positions, or if you just want to walk in the park.

  • A Food Dish to Pass - Bring a dish to pass for Friday and/or Saturday.  This is a club event and you can help out tremendously by contributing to the food supply.  Make sure dishes and/or utensils are clearly marked so they can be returned to you.

  • Cooler - The only source of refrigeration will be coolers.  Our food tent chairperson, Linda Riley, can't possibly supply all of the coolers needed for this event.  If you can loan a cooler to the club for the three days, we would be ever so grateful.  Again, make sure that your name and/or call sign are marked on it for an easy return.

Q:  I don't belong to the Motor City Radio Club or don't have an amateur radio license. Can I still participate in Field Day with the club?

A:  Certainly! We welcome visitors from other clubs, hams of any license class, and those who may not have an amateur radio license. Everyone is welcome to stop by to operate, chat with our members and see what the Motor City Radio Club and our hobby are all about.

Q:  I missed the June meeting where the sign up sheets were.  I'm sure that all the spots are filled by now.

A:  Don't worry about not having anything to do while at Field Day.  There are plenty of stations to keep on the air.  If you hold a General Class license or higher, you can help get the public on the air at the Get On The Air (G.O.T.A) tent.  The welcome center can use people to take visitors around to the different tents to explain to them what is going on so they can get excited about our hobby.  There are also slots still open for the CW, Phone and UHF/VHF station as well.  So come on out and join in on the Field Day festivities!
